'Abisamaya'

"Abisamaya" is a teledrama which would be telecasted on every Thursday from September 21, at 9 p.m. exclusively on Swarnavahini. The story revolvs around a pretty widow who wants to start a new life after the death of her husband.

The characters of the teledrama are portrayed by Palitha Silva, Nilmini Tennakoon, Semini Iddamalgoda, Priyankara Ratnayake, Grace Ariyawimal, Lionel Wickrama, Ashen Wijesinghe, Buddhi Wickrama, Ramani Fonseka and Tissa Udangamuwa.

Frustrated and disillusioned Anupama wants to forget the happenings of the past and start a new life.

Her 25 year old sister Vindya is irresponsible and playful lass. She falls in love with a young lad named Thivanka, one of her batch mates at the campus . She is least bothered by the fact that Thivanka comes from a poor family, and that he is not a match for her.

Vindya invites Thivanka to her parents 35th Wedding Anniversary. In the midst of the party Thivanka notices that Vindya enjoys dancing with a handsome young lad. Later he comes to know that he is none other than Ravi, who has been proposed by her parents.

Vindya gets married to Ravi and leaves for England.

Anupama’s father who is a wealthy, landed proprietor who owns and manages a large tea estate falls sick and decides to retire from his business handing over his entire wealth to Anupama.He passes away leaving her in a desperate position.

Young and inexperienced, Anupama finds it difficult to manage the wealth that her father left her and hence she decides to invite Thivanka to be the manager.

Thivanka accepts the invitation. He likes her for her qualities and looks and subsequently falls in love with her. She rejects him at the beginning but gradually she too falls in love with him. Ultimately they get married.

Meanwhile Vindya comes to the island on a vacation with her young daughter.

Her sisters’ marriage to her former fiancŽ is a blow to her.

Thivanka gradually looses interest in Anupama simply because she cannot conceive. Knowing this Vindya starts flirting with her former fiancŽ and decides to divorce her husband and marry Thivanka.

Anupama seeks help from Thivanka’s friend Chandana. He manages to take the two of them for a medical check-up. The medical reports show that it is Thivanka who is at fault. But Anupama and Chandana keep this as a secret.

To overcome the problem Chandana makes an unusual proposal for which

Anupama slaps him. But later Chandana is able to convince Anupama that he simply made this suggestion to enable her to get over her problem.

As a result Anupama conceives. Thivanka comes to know that his wife has conceived and decides to forgive her while giving up his relationship with her sister.

Meanwhile Chandana leaves the country writing a letter to Anupama pleading that one day she would expose the truth to his child. Anupama gets upset after reading the letter and crushes it and throws it away and falls asleep with her child.

Thivanka who returns home notices something fallen near her bed. He opens the crumpled letter.

He rushes to take revenge from Chandana and finds that he has met with an accident and is disabled. He goes home with the intention of killing Anupama, when she reveals the truth and shows him the medical report. She tells Thivanka that she had connections with Chandana with the sole intention of giving him, Thivanka a child.

Anupama asks Thivanka whether a man should necessarily be a father to love an (innocent) child. Thivanka realises the reality of life; but he is too late when he opens his eyes to the truth.

He sees Anupama leaving with her child and baggage.

`Abisamaya,’ has been directed by Anuruddha Jayasinghe and produced by Nalindra Kumar Nadesan. The music is by Rohan Weerasinghe, lyrics by Wasantha Kumara and the singing is by Leslie Fernando, Pradeepa Dharmadasa, Sashika Nisansala and Luxman Hewavitharana.
