Several families in Pathadumbara electorate who built toilets with the hope of getting financial aid provided for special health projects implemented on a divisional level have still not received the funds allocated to them for the last year.

A family without a toilet was allocated Rs 300 for the year 1999 by the government to build one, but they have not received the money yet, they complain. There are no toilets in many villages in Pathadumbara mountainous areas. This has compelled the residents to use banks of rivers and canals as toilets. This leads to environmental pollution. It is to stop this that the government provided funds to build toilets in the area, residents say.
