| Nirupama for Tourist Board? Mrs. Nirupama Rajapakse, a former Deputy Minister of Tourism who did not retain her parliamentary seat at the October 10 election, is mentioned as the possible new chairperson of the Ceylon Tourist Board. Asked whether she had been appointed, she said "No" but indicated an interest in the position saying tourism was a subject close to her heart and she felt that she could make a positive contribution for the promotion of the industry. Mrs. Rajapakse who was appointed Deputy Minister of Tourism in 1994 was subsequently moved to the Womens Affairs Ministry. Mr. Andrew de Silva, Secretary to the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, is now acting as Chairman of the Ceylon Tourist Board. (FRS) |
