| Detectives put all players under the microscope Two ex-Scotland Yard detectives with the International Cricket Council (ICC) anti-corruption unit are to investigate all the players named an Indian report on match fixing. The two former detectives met Indian federal investigators in New Delhi yesterday to discuss the report that has named a host of Indias players, including former captain Mohammad Azharuddin, in addition to other internationals such as Australias Mark Waugh, Englands Alec Stewart and West Indian Brian Lara. "I am glad to say we had constructive talks with the CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation) this morning and those inquiries will be continuing," Martin Hawkins told reporters. Hawkins, who has come to India with another ex-Scotland Yard detective, Alan Peacock, said they would investigate all players named in the CBI report. The players are named by bookmakers in the report as having been paid or offered money for information, although the allegations are mostly uncorroborated. Among the most serious allegations are those against Azharuddin, who is accused of match fixing. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) banned Azharuddin and four other Indian players from domestic cricket until it completed an internal inquiry based on the police report.
