| Troops recover TNT explosives in Kopai house The Information Department on Wednesday reported the following incidents in the North and East In Jaffna peninsula On information given by a civilian, troops recovered 4.5 kgs of TNT explosives hidden in a backyard of a house in Kopai about 4 kms north of Jaffna town in the evening of November 28. Although it was reported killing of 07 terrorists in the operation conducted by the security forces in Ariyalai area when they assaulted three bunkers on Monday November, monitored terrorist transmissions have now confirmed killing of 17 terrorists in the same operation. In Welioya On Tuesday during daytime troops engaged a group of terrorists at Andankulam area on Pulmudai Vavuniya road approximately 10 kms west of Pulmuddai three terrorists were killed and a few others suffered injuries in the confrontation. Terrorists fled the area with their casualties. On a subsequent search troops recovered two T 56 weapons left behind by the fleeing terrorists. Further search carried out by the troops in Padaviya tank area after the terrorists attack on the Guard Point on Tuesday, they found another terrorists body left behind by fleeing terrorists making a total of two and a LMG and a T 56 making a total of weapons recovered to five T 56 and one LMG. In Trincomalee on Tuesday about 7 p.m. naval sentry at Sandy Bay Naval Dockyard Trincomalee observed a suspicious movement and ordered to surrender. Instead of surrendering the person has tried to escape into the jungle nearby. Sentry opened fire and subsequently they have found the person in the nearby jungle with gun shot injuries. He was admitted to the Naval Hospital and later succumbed to his injuries. Presuming the suspect was involved in a reconnaissance mission. Naval authorities and Trincomalee police are conducting further investigations. |
