A press release issued by National Country Programme Advisor, UNAIDS, Dr. Hemamal Jayawardena states : "There have been reports in certain newspapers suggestive of money being offered to Mr. Sanath Jayasuriya for being the UNAIDS Ambassador of Goodwill. The position of the Ambassador of Goodwill is an honourary one and there were no offers of money made.
