Indian fabrics — Sri Lankan garments textile show at Oberoi

An exclusive Indian Textile Show 2000 will be held at the Atrium Lobby in Hotel Lanka Oberoi, Colombo during December 6, 7 & 8, 2000 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on all the three days. Admission to the Show is free of charge.

The theme of the show is ‘Indian Fabrics - Sri Lankan Garments’ which will highlight the suitability and availability of Indian fabrics to the Sri Lankan garment industry.

The show is being organised by the High Commission of India and the Synthetic and Rayon Textiles Export Promotion Council of India. All the major textile/garment associations - Sri Lanka Apparel Exporters Association. Free Trade Zone Manufacturers Association, National Apparel Exporters Association, Ceylon Textiles Manufacturers Association, and Sri Lanka Garment Buying Offices Association have endorsed the show.

Products on display at the show would include the latest range of Indian synthetic, rayon and blended textile items like suiting, shirting, dress materials, embroidered fabrics, sarees, furnishings, made-up items like scarves, stoles, dupattas and various types of yarn.

Thirty leading Indian companies like Reliance Industries Ltd., Bombay Dyeing & Mfg. Co. Ltd, Indian Rayon & Industries Ltd., Rajasthan Spinning & Weaving Mills Ltd., S. Kumar (Synfabs Ltd.), Morarjee Goculdas Ltd., Vijay Silk House Ltd. will participate in the show. The Indian participants look forward to establish tie-ups with Sri Lankan garment sector for supply of fabrics, possible joint ventures and export of garments made of Indian fabrics under the Indo-Sri Lanka Free Trade Agreement.

The Sri Lankan garment industry which is currently oriented towards cotton fabrics would find the show an excellent opportunity to diversify their production line into synthetic and blended garments to meet the growing global demand in this segment.

The Indian synthetic and rayon textile industry has certain unique advantages, which have gone a long way in making its mark on the global market. The industry is self-sufficient and vertically integrated. Moreover, having a textile tradition of centuries it has perfected the art and science of producing exquisite textiles. The diversified small lot production system prevalent in India is cable of coping better with the changes in fashion demands and is more suited to cater to small lot orders in a shorter span of time. Thus India is in position to cater to all segments of the international synthetic textile market. The secret of India’s success in the global market lies in the unmistakable quality of its textiles, competitive prices and reliable supply.

The primary objective of the show is to facilitate establishment of a strategic linkage between the Indian fabrics manufacturers and the Sri Lankan Garment industry.

Coinciding with the event, a Fashion Show will be held at Colombo for an invitee gathering. Top Indian and Sri Lankan models attired in garments made in Sri Lanka out of Indian fabrics will participate in the Fashion Show highlighting the theme of the Textile Show.
