Road safety for school children

A good number of school children use the road every day. People meet with fatal accidents due to their ignorance in road safety rules. It is a pity that a large number of the victims are school children. Hence, it is necessary for them to follow the road safety rules for their own safety. These rules are given in the Highway Code. Most children come to school walking or on bicycles. Others travel by bus or train.

While walking, they should always keep to the right and use the pavement. All the children must learn to cross the road correctly when they are young. Before crossing the road stop at the edge of the pavement look right, look left, look right and walk across at right angles when the road is clear. They should always use the pedestrian crossings to cross the road. The children should not play in or near a street.

Travelling in bus or train on the foot boards dangerous and should be avoided. The children should not try to get on or off the bus or train while it is on the move. When using the road always be alert, careful and courteous.
