| Annual Soccer Encounter 2000 Bens down Joes 2-0 by T. Prem Kumar St. Benedicts scored a spectacular 2 goals to nil victory over arch soccer rivals St. Josephs in their annual inter school football encounter played at the Sugathadasa Stadium on Thursday. At the breather the winners led 1-0. Although the Josephians played hard they found it impossible to hit the net due to the superb goal keeping of Benedictine custodian Shanaz Martinu, who came up with a number of brilliant saves. The Benedictines opened scoring in the 30th minute, when a good pass from Constantine Francis saw right forward Thilanka Nandasiri smash the ball in to the net. In the 25th minute after lemons, the Benedictines scored their second and last goal of the match when skipper Dilan Roy converted a 20 metre free kick with ease to knock the fight out of the Josephians.
