| Strict check at airport for Tiger suspects by
Norman Palihawadane police intelligence has reported an instance of a Tiger suicide bomber identified as Sudaharan who had escaped into India and is planning to return by plane to Sri Lanka as a civilian. The possibility of explosive material being hidden in close proximity to Colombo city to be used by this suicide bomber to carry out a major attack also was discussed at this meeting. Inspector General of Police has ordered relevant authorities to strengthen security at the Katunayake Bandaranaike International Airport, Colombo city and its suburbs and be vigilant of persons coming to Sri Lanka from India as civilians. Meanwhile combined search operations by the police and the army have been stepped up in Colombo city and its suburbs. In one of these operations Slave Island police had arrested a Tamil youth attempting to exchange foreign currency equivalent to Sri Lankan rupees 100,000. |
