The funeral of Prof. Stanley Kalpage, a distinguished academic and diplomat took place at the Borella Kanatta on Sunday amidst a large gathering.

He served in the Senate when Dudley Senanayake was Prime Minister in 1965 and was the Secretary, Higher Education since 1977.He was Chairman, University Grants Commission from 1977-89. Later Prof. Kalpage served as Sri Lanka’s High Commissioner to India from 1989-91. Thereafter, he became the Resident Representative to the UN from 1991-94.

Prof. Kalpage was an experienced person in international affairs, who contributed regular columns to newspapers.
