Grenades, revolver found in Pettah textile shop

On questioning a suspect following the recovery of an army’s camouflage uniform hidden in a textile shop near the Pettah Bo Tree, officers of Crime Investigation Headquarters detected two hand granades and a revolver.

The suspect has stated to the police that he had kept those explosives to kill one young person called ‘Smart’ of Keselwatte, Colombo 11. He had planned to carry out the ‘job’ posing as a soldier.

Crime Investigation Headquarters said that the suspect had been linked to the underworld in the guise of a textile trader in Pettah.

Police investigations have revealed that the suspect had planned to kill ‘Smart’ for cut injuries inflicted on his relatives.

The raid conducted by a team led by Inspector D. S. Jayasinghe on the orders of Director, CID, Gamini Seneviratne, directed by Colombo DIG, Bodi Liyanage. (NP)
