Health Minister John Seneviratne has ordered an inquiry into a number of Health Ministry vehicles that have gone missing.

The minister told "The Island" that he had held discussions with the relevant officials and requested them to identify the number of vehicles that are gone missing.

The Minister said that he has also appointed a special unit of officials to inspect the shortcomings of hospitals that are under the central government as well as in other base hospitals that come under provincial councils.

These inspections would commence periodically to find out short comings of the hospitals and to identify the particular problems and to take immediate action, he said.

"All the reports would be studied by the additional Secretary of the Health Ministry and measures would be taken to streamline the problems" the Minister said.
