Police investigating the killing of Customs Department Preventive Officer, Sujith Priyantha Perera on Saturday (24) by two unidentified gunmen riding a motorcycle at Thorana Junction, Kelaniya intend questioning another Customs Officer who had been serving with Sujith Priyantha Perera, police sources said.

Investigations have revealed that Sujith Priyantha Perera had given evidence against this Customs Officer at a disciplinary liquiry held against him by the Customs Department.

It had also been revealed that Sujith Priyantha Perera had been an efficient Customs Officer and that he had carried out several successful raids.

Investigations therefore had been directed towards recent raids carried out by this officer in order to ascertain any possible connections with his killing, Peliyagoda police said.

Meanwhile, the Criminal Investigations Department also had initiated investigations into this killing on the his instruction of the Inspector General of Police.

The brother-in-law of Priyantha Perera who was in the car with him at the time of this shooting incident had suffered gun shot injuries. He had been admitted to the Colombo National Hospital. (NP)
