Interaction programme to beautify Colombo

An interaction programme for the beautification of the city of Colombo will take place on Thursday April 5 at the Taj Samudra Hotel.

Among those who are scheduled to take part at the event are Sri Lanka Tourism Chairman, Renton De Alwis and Ms. Neidra Fernando, Special Projects.

From the Urban Development Authority, Deputy Director General Projects - Prasanna Silva, Director - Environment and Landscape Planning - Ms. Hester Basnayake, Director - Project Management - Hemantha Jayasundara and Prof. Lakshmen Alwis - Design Consortium Ltd. will take part.

The Deputy Director General (Investment) - Ms. Shehara de Silva will represent the Board of Investment.

The key issues to be discussed will be the Galle Face Green, Areas surrounding the Beira Lake, Saturday Night Bazaar, D. R. Wijewardena Mawatha, Arts and Crafts Centre - Echelon Square.

Sri Lanka tourism suggestions are to give Colombo an image of a vibrant city, and a Moon Bazzar to provide:

Shopping opportunities, activities after dinner, an opportunity to meet locals and producers of indigenous handicrafts and other products, and be a platform for amateur dance and music groups.

A publicity campaign to keep the city clean and a clean up campaign by school children are also suggested.

Others invited to take part are general managers of hotels, travel agents - inbound and outbound association members, up market restaurants and shops, fast food outlets and the Association of Nawam Mawatha, Entreppreneurs.
