The media gave wide publicity via the press, T.V. etc regarding the top 10 Companies based on their financial performance for 1999/2000. "Business Today" presented the ten outstanding performers of Corporate Sri Lanka.

These ten Companies and their managements must be really proud of their outstanding achievements. Good for them. But as a majority Buddhist and a third world developing country, the government should note with concern that of the top 10, three companies who have made the Grade are famous for producing, selling and distributing the following:-

(a) Meat products

(b) Alcoholic brewages.

(c) Tobacco and cigarettes.

The above top performances clearly shows that whatever shortcomings and hardships we are faced with, we Sri Lankans are a happy-go-lucky eating drinking lot, so to hell with religion, culture, health etc.
