Investigation into bribery against Arjuna and Aravinda
Condon’s men to be present during questioning

Former Sri Lanka cricket captain Arjuna Ranatunga and his deputy Aravinda de Silva will be questioned over allegations of accepting bribes, from bookies, to throw matches, cricket’s anti-corruption chief, Sir Paul Condon said on Monday .

He said two members of his anti-corruption unit would be present when an investigator appointed by local cricket authorities interviewed Ranatunga and de Silva.

President’s Counsel Desmond Fernando was appointed by the now dissolved Executive Committee of the Cricket Board to investigate and report on the allegations against the two players.

Condon ,who ended a three-day visit to Sri Lanka on Monday, during which time he met Justice and Sports Ministers, will not question the players himself. He said questioning would take place this week but could not say when or what role his team would play. He however said two of his officers would be present.

The former head of London’s Metropolitan Police said he was satisfied with the way Sri Lanka was investigating the charges, which have been denied by both players. "I will never have any part in a cover-up, nothing and no one will be too sacred," he said when asked about reports in the local media that criticised the Sri Lankan investigation.

Condon said he was aware there were still several "issues that needed ironing out", including the fact de Silva was scheduled to be out of the country this week.
