by Cyril Wimalasurendre
KANDY:
The Kandy Bar Association (KBA) chaired by its president Wijaya Wickremaratne PC resolved unanimously to call upon the relevant parties to refrain from impeaching the Chief Justice in Parliament as the move will be an attempt to destabilise the country's judicial system.

The resolution was proposed and seconded respectively by the KBA's Secretary Upali Bogahapitiya and attorney M. S. M. Hussain.

The resolutions unanimously adopted on Monday (28) stated as follows:

"We have learnt through the media that there is an attempt to move a resolution to impeach the Chief Justice in Parliament.

We see this as an attempt to d-estabilise the judicial system of our land which will bring disastrous consequences.

We therefore wish to request those who are responsible for this move to refrain from this dangerous course of action.

We wish to invite the entire legal fraternity despite whatever differences they may have regarding politics to resist this sinister move.
