| IMF rep in 'rupees & sense' "Rupees & Sense" the monthly television programme on ITN sponsored by Bank of Ceylon, is focused on current economic issues and this month's programme will be telecast on on Tuesday at 8.30 p.m. In this programme, Dr. Nademm Ul Haque, Senior Resident Represen-tative of the Intern-ational Monet-ary Fund will be talking to Dr. Saman Kelegama, Executive Director of the Institute of Policy Studies, about the IMF stand by package signed recently and the general progress of the Sri Lankan economy. "Rupees & Sense" is presented by Daya Abeysekera. Dr. W. D. L. Fernando Memorial Oration, 2001 The Dr. W. D. L. Fernando Memorial Oration of the Medico-Legal Society of Sri Lanka will be delivered on Friday, June 1, 2001 at 6.00 p.m. at the Auditorium of the Medical Research Institute, Baseline Road, Borella. The oration will be open to the public. The main theme of the oration would be that the forensic expert should confine himself to the limits of his expertise. Instances, where medical officers, have described injuries as signs of rape and abortions, as criminal abortions would be cited and discussed with a view to ascertaining the legality of such opinions. The oration for the current year will be delivered by Mr. Daya Perera, Presidents Counsel, on "The Doctor as an expert witness". The emphasis would be on a medical officer testifying as a forensic scientist. Dr. W. D. L. Fernando was a former Judicial Medical Officer of Colombo who had testified in many famous criminal trials in Sri Lanka. |
