| Contract for supply of communication network BC Software Systems (Pvt) Ltd. (BCSS), the subsidiary of BC Computers Ltd. and a member of the Bartleet Group of Companies signed an agreement with Colombo universitys Institute of Computer Technology (ICT) to supply and install high-end Cisco central site routers to the Lanka Education and Research Network (LEARN) a press release said. The implementation of this project will provide a reliable high-speed backbone communication connecting four universities i.e. Colombo, Moratuwa, Peradeniya and Ruhuna. The proposed backbone will be used to provide data and voice communication as well as video conferencing. The project is fully funded by the Swedish International Development Co-operation Agency (SIDA) and managed locally by the ICT. BCSS has successfully implemented major projects for the Universities in Sri Lanka. For Colombo University 4km of Optical Fibre cable was laid to interconnect the Faculties of Medicine, Science and Arts and the College House Premises. At the Open University, a 4km Campus-wide Fibre Backbone was implemented for building a collapsible backbone based on switched Ethernet LAN while at the Ruhuna University, 8km of Optical Fibre cable was laid to establish the Campuswide computer network. ICTs Director Ruwan Weerasinghe and BCSSs Managing Director Sunil Wijesinghe participated at this ceremony. |
