Lost baggage

I disembarked recently at the Bandaranaike International Airport. My suitcase was deemed missing. However after 12 days, a suitecase had been located from my flight, without an identity, containing filthy clothes. The only clue to its owner was her name on a tunic. By the good offices of the Dept. of Emigration-Immigration, the thief was identified and some goods were recovered by the CID.

In some countries passengers baggage ticket numbers, on the baggage, are checked for identification with the baggage numbers, attached on the airline ticket, for duplicity; when passengers leave the final customs exit, which is not done at the BIA. If this method is instituted, an intending thief will not be able to spirit away the property of another, from the revolving carousal.

I do trust that the BIA authorities and the minister concerned will act to implement the necessary procedure, as requested.

In conclusion as a frequent traveller, I have to praise the security system at the BIA, if not for the above reason.
