Mahanayakes donate dry rations for drought victims

The Mahanayake Thero of the Asgiriya Chapter and the Diyawadana Nilame Neranjan Wijeyeratne will make a gift of Rs. 500,000 worth of dry rations to the victims of the current drought around Tanamalwila in the Hambantota District, tomorrow.

The large stock of raw food items have been purchased from the Buddhist Welfare Fund of the Sri Dalada Maligawa under the patronage of the Ven. Rambukwelle Sri Vipassi and Ven. Udugama Sri Buddharakkitha, Mahanayaka theros of Malwatte and Asgiriya respectively, and the Diyawadana Nilame.

The dry rations are meant for 250 families, with each family receiving a bag containing food items worth Rs. 2000.

The food will be presented to the Pradeshiya Secretary of Thanamalwila by the Ven Udagama Sri Buddharakkita thero and tthe Diyawadana Nilame personally tomorrow afternoon at the Agrabodhi Vihare of Thanamalwila.

Ven, Rambukwelle Sri Vipassi, who lauded the initiative taken by the Diyawadana Nilame, invited all others to supply as much food and other needs as possible to assist the drought victims.
