SLSCA’s Rauff takes up new job in Riyadh

M. T. A. Rauff of the Sri Lanka Schools Cricket Association (SLSCA) will leave for Riyadh, Saudi Arabia today to take up an appointment with the Sri Lanka International School. Rauff was the Prefect of Games at D. S. Senanayake College and also its Master-in-charge of cricket.

He was educated at three southern schools Revatha MV Balapitiya, Karandeniya Central and Darmasoka College, Ambalangoda where he excelled in cricket, badminton and athletics and cadeting. He later entered the Colombo University where he completed his BSc degree. He then joined D. S. Senanayake College in 1987 and worked there until the Saudi Arabia appointment.

Rauff an active personality in the Sri Lanka Cricket Association where he was made an EXCO member in 1992 and later a committee member. After that he became the Under 17 tournament secretary. Finally he was appointed as treasurer.

He also made several overseas tours with school cricket teams as manager. He was the manager of the Under 17 team to Hong Kong in 1998 and then was the school representative of the Under 17 national team to Pakistan for the Asian Championship which was won by Sri Lanka.

Apart from that Rauff was the liaison officer to the Pakistan cricket team in the year 2000 for the Under 19 World Cup Tournament and for the Pakistan ‘A’ team in June.

Rauff is also a qualified curator after having followed at curator’s exam conducted by the BCCSL. (DR)
