PM assures power, water cut will end within two weeks

Horana — Whether there is rain or blazing sun or any adverse condition within the next two weeks, electricity will be provided without any cuts and continuous water will be supplied to the drought-stricken people, Prime Minister, Ratnasiri Wickremanayake said on Saturday at a ceremony held at Thakshila Central College, Horana to distribute "Janma Bhoomi" deeds to 170 allottees in the Horana electorate under the Land Development Commission programme and to give funds to purchase books for the libraries of backward schools in Horana electorate.

The Prime Minister further said that whoever objected to these allocations all assistance would be provided for the development and the upliftment of the future generation.

The private sector would be provided with all assistance to build power plants to generate electricity. The districts presently suffering from the drought are surrounded by sea water. Immediate action would be taken to convert seawater into fresh water.

Gamini Kodippili, Director, District Land Development Board, W. K. Wijeyasiri, Western Provincial Councillor, Vipula Rohana Kulasiri, Chairman, Urban Council, Horana and Yasapala Koralage, President, Pradeshiya Sabha also participated on this occasion.
