IBM World Trade Corporation appointed IT Works Ltd., (ITWL) as an Authorised Service Provider (ASP) for IBM PC products, says a press release.

Now, IBM customers have the option of purchasing IBM PCs from a reseller of their choice while giving them the convenience of a "One-Stop Shop" dedicated solely for services. Under this initiative, IBM customers will also be able to access value added IBM ServicePacs through ITWL.

ITWL is a member of the East-West Group of companies. The company will be headed by Nahil Wijesuriya (Chairman) and Rohan Abhayaratne (CEO). The company will not be involved in any form of PC sales, but will solely focus on IBM PC warranty and maintenance related services. The IBM PC product range, which IT Works are to focus on include commercial desktops, think pads, and the eServer xSeries.

IBM is said to be the world’s largest information technology company with 80 years of experience in helping businesses innovate. It offers a wide range of services, solutions and technologies that enable companies to take advantage of the new era of e-business. For the sixth straight year, IBM reported a record revenue of US$ 88 billion in 2000. IBM celebrates 20 years of the introduction of its personal computer this year.

Although the computational capabilities of computers had long been available to institutions, it was IBM PC which made computing power widely available to individuals. With more than five hundred million in use worldwide, the personal computer is arguably one of the greatest productivity tools invented, and the first truly pervasive computing device.
