Remembering Viji

Today is the 10th death anniversary of Vijitha Amerasinghe, who, at the time of his untimely demise, was the Sports Editor of ‘The Island’.

Lovable Viji, the raconteur, was inimitable, irrepressible and irreplaceable, but most of all, he was a friend.

All who came in contact with Viji will remember him for his smile, easy going attitude and the numerous practical jokes he played, which went a long way to ease the tension. He was indeed a lovable nuisance in the office.

Even at times he was hospitalized, he would be upto his pranks, such as substituting slippers in the ward and then watch the confusion and drama unfold.

He was truly a load of mischief, but infinitely harmless and without a streak of malice. He was never to be seen wearing an expression of worry. Viji sure was a great guy in his own inimitable way.

Memories don’t leave like people do...
