Mangala Samaraweera, who was sworn in as Minister of Development, Public Utilities, Housing and Sports has voluntarily resigned his portfolios to help the President to keep the number of ministers at 20 under the PA-JVP agreement.

However, Samaraweera will remain as Deputy Minister of Urban Development, Public Utilities, Housing and Sports.

The JVP-PA agreement provides space only for twenty Deputy Ministers.
