Sacred tooth relic exposition
CEB refuses continuous power supply

KANDY
— The Kandy Regional heads of the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) have informed the Sri Dalada Maligawa authorities that the Board is unable to supply power uninterrupted during the period of the exposition of the Sacred Tooth Relic from Saturday (22).

The Kandy’s Electrical Engineer K. Tennakoon has said in a letter addressed to the Diyawadana Nilame that a request to provide electricity during power-cut hours too to Kandy to facilitate maintain security and conveniences to the thousands of pilgrims flooded to Kandy could not be met due inadequate rain in the reservoir areas.

It was decided at a recent meeting attended by the Diyawadana Nilame, Neranjan Wijeyeratne, Chief Minister CP, Sarath Ekanayake, Kandy GA Sumana Bandara Beddewela, Kandy Mayor Harindranath Dunuwille, Chief Secretary, CP, K. B. Wijekoon, DIG, Mahinda Balasuriya and a host of officials to urge the CEB to provide electricity round the clock during the 16 days of the exposition.
