Mangala’s ‘Maligawa’ cost Rs. 25 m., UDA confirms

Over Rs. 25 million has been spent to refurbish the auditorium and Minister’s area on the second floor of Sethsiripaya where Mr. Managala Samaraweera’s Urban Development, Construction and Public Utilities Ministry is located, the Ravaya newspaper reported in its latest issue.

The total cost of the project, as given in an official communication signed by Mr W. A. Siriwardena, Director General, UDA, and addressed to the ministry secretary, is Rs 25,406,171.86, the report said.

Among the breakdown of the expenditure involved are, Rs 6,551,903.42 for chairs, Rs. 1,068,581.35 for demolition and civil works, Rs. 3,589,216.66 for partitions, Rs 2,553,646.62 for furniture, Rs 2,601,480.39 for lighting and power, Rs. 2,423,389.50 for tiling and Rs. 1,794,549.44 for the ceiling. In addition to this, Rs. 1,891,794.68 has been paid as consultancy fees to Nelu De Zoysa Design Corporation (Pvt) Ltd.

Sculptures have cost Rs. 225,000, art works Rs 291,500, Venetian binds Rs. 218,878.67 and PABX system with instruments Rs. 696,375, the report said.

Contacted by the Sunday Island yesterday, UDA DG W. A. Siriwardena said the project was carried out in accordance with tender procedure.

He admitted that he wrote to the ministry secretary setting out the details and a copy of this letter published in the Ravaya was authentic.
