Anura SLFP second-in-command?

There is intense speculation that Anura Bandaranaike would be appointed the deputy leader of the SLFP but no confirmation that any decision had been taken. Bandaranaike himself was not available for comment.

The PA district leader for the Gampaha district Bandaranaike who took the SLFP membership a few days ago claimed that he would easily poll 300,000 preference votes this time.

A deputy minister yesterday said that "they have not heard of any move to appoint Anura the deputy leader." Nothing has been discussed at the Central Committee, he claimed.

But, it is no secret that many decisions including the one to prorogue parliament and call a referendum on constitutional change was taken without even consulting the then Justice Minister.
