Rajakaruna to take on Anura at Attanagalla

Sarathchandra Rajakaruna, a senior UNP politician and former Cabinet minister, has been nominated by the party leadership to contest the Attanagalla electorate in the Gampaha district in the December 5 parliamentary poll.

Earlier he contested the Dompe electorate, but the popular figure he is, Rajakaruna has now been moved by UNP leader Ranil Wickremesinghe to the SLFP bastion of Attanagalla to contest PA’s Gampaha district leader Anura Bandaranaike.

Rajakaruna was first elected MP for Dompe on his 37th birthday. He defeated SLFP’s strongman Felix Dias Bandaranaike by a majority of 2,397 votes.

He was a Cabinet Minister under the UNP government.
