Sriyani completes third tele-drama in England

From Sujeeva Nivunhella - Our London Corr.
Veteran film actress Sriyani Amarasena has just finished filming her third tele-drama here in England. Sriyani started her first Sri Lanka-British production with ‘Ira Batu Tharuwa’ three years ago. Since then she came to England every year to do a tele-drama.

Last year she has done ‘Hemanthaye Wasanthayak’. Both the films were very successful. Her still unnamed latest production was totally filmed in England. Other than Sriyani and Robin Fernando, all the actors and actresses were selected from Sri Lankan expatriate community living in the UK. Former stage play actress Prema Gangegoda who now lives in England also had a role in this tele-drama.

As on the previous two occasions, this tele-film too was started with the blessings of the resident monks at the London Buddhist Vihara. This tele-film too will be screened in London next year before it will be telecast in Sri Lanka.

She also has laid foundation for another Sri Lanka-British production to be started in next year. Sriyani’s husband, the well known journalist Arthur U. Amarasena, will for the first time, direct this new tele-drama to be filmed in Scotland next year. It will be produced by Wimal Alahakoon.

While Sriyani was filming her tele-film, another famous actor and director Daya Alwis was also in London. He screened his latest tele-film ‘Dalpadathu alias Hickmeeya’ in London on last 21st. Before that it was screened in Stockholm, Sweden on 7th. This tele-film will be telecast on ITN shortly.

Daya also will be coming to England to do a tele-film next year. It will be shot in a farm in Kent. Daya has selected Kamal Addaraarachchi and Channa Perera for the main roles and he is yet to select the actress for the leading female role.

In the mean time, singers Victor Ratnayake, Sunil Edirisinghe, Edward Jayakody and Nirosha Virajini will be travelling to London next month to participate in a musical show. It will be held at Camden Centre on 25th November at 3.30 p.m. Rohana Weerasinghe will provide music for this show. It is organised by Art Lanka.
