Thomas’ College, Gurutalawa, was awarded the "Best Cricketer of the Year" award (2000) for the second successive year at the school’s prize giving held recently. He is also the captain of the Under 13 college cricket team. In the Under 13 cricket match played at Gurutalawa recently S. Thomas’ beat Gankanda MMV by 179 runs. |
Fernando was the second highest scorer with 62 runs while his team mate Sajith Jayawardena top scored with 87.
In bowling Fernando captured 3 wickets for 64 runs while Ravindra Rathnayake took 2 for 21.
In another match also played at Gurutalawa S. Thomas’ beat Thaxila MV, Horana by 90 runs. Fernando scored an unbeaten 111 with 19 fours and two sixes and was adjudged ‘man of the match’.
In the match against Kingswood, S. Thomas’ won by 104 runs with Fernando top scoring with 58.
The masters-in-charge M. B. R. C. Kumara and W. H. Ellepola are doing their best with the junior cricketers. With the necessary backing from the Bishop of Colombo Rt. Rev. Duleep De Chikera and the Head Master Geethal Crysantha Mendis.
