Free and fair election: The only way

The Elections Commissioner and the IGP are at loggerheads to interpret the 17th Amendment to the Constitution in so far as the powers vested with the Elections Commissioner.

In fairness to the peace-loving people of this country, would the Elections Commissioner introduce the requirement to submit the national identity cards/photographs (certified by the Grama Niladhari of the area) of the voters, at the time of polling at the forthcoming general elections so that it could, to a great extent, be conducted in a free and fair manner.

Would the Elections Commissioner, please, enlighten the peace loving people of this country, as to why this system could not be introduced in Sri Lanka as has been done in countries like Pakistan and Bangladesh? Over to you the Elections Commissioner.
