Anatoly Karpov Chess Club promotes the sport islandwide

The Anatoly Karpov Chess Club of the Russian Centre in Colombo has done a lot to promote chess through out the country by conducting coaching camps on request, by organizing tournaments for age groups (women’s open & veteran) and also by arranging seminars with the help of Russian chess instructors and arbiters.

Anatoly Karpov Chess Club celebrated its 3rd anniversary by organizing the annual prize giving recently at the Russian Centre auditorium. The Indian High Commissioner in Sri Lanka Gopal Krishnagandhi and the Russian Ambassador Mikhail Konovosky were the chief guests.

The Anatoly Karpov Chess Club of the Russian Centre recently conducted its All Island Age Group Tournament (Southern Province) at Kalegama Piyatissa MV in Galle. The awards ceremony of the above tournament was held at Sangamitta College, Galle on October 31. Mikhail Ustinor, Director Russian Centre was the chief guest.

‘Dulux’ sponsors mercantile team badminton for 4th year

The Dulux Inter Firm Badminton Team Championship for the Dulux trophy conducted by the Mercantile Badminton Association will be held from November 7 to 11 at S. Thomas’ Gymnasium Mt. Lavinia.

According to the President of the MBA Gamini Jayasuriya there will be a special event for veterans over 40 years.

CIC Paints Ltd. is sponsoring this tournament for the fourth consecutive year.

The championship will have participants drawn from MBA’s total membership of 160 mercantile firms and the biggest attraction would be the anticipated tussle among Sri Lanka‘s top national shuttlers to bring honour to themselves and their respective firms.
