First health week in garment industry

Bodyline (Private) Limited, situated in Horana - one of the largest export garment manufacturing plants in South East Asia, organised a health week from 22 - 26 October for the benefit of its employees. Main features of this event were - Dental Clinic, Suwanari Clinic (to address womens’ health issues which also conducted pap smear tests and other relevant tests), Rubella vaccination campaign and seminars addressing common health topics such as: AIDS & Sexually Transmitted Diseases, Communicable diseases, Nutrition, Healthy Life Styles, Oral Health, Mental Health and Reproductive Health. Several dramas addressing health related issues were also a part of this event.

The health exhibition which was also part of this programme was a main attraction which had exhibits and specimens on: Dental Health, Filaria awareness, Epidemilogy, Pathology (which contained 30 specimens from the Medical Faculty).

Whilst the overall projects especially the clinics were intended only for the employees, the medical exhibition was extended for the school children around the vicinity to improve their knowledge on these areas. A total of 1,500 school children most of whom were from the very rural schools viewed this exhibition.
