| Rs. 6.9b container yard project Half the construction works of the multi-duty container yard at the northern area of the Colombo Port stage 2 of the north pier development project has now been completed, says a press release. This project which is valued at Rs. 6,876 millions is being funded by the Japan Bank for International Corporation (JBIC). of his sum, the construction of the yard would cost Rs. 3,426 million, while the purchase of three gantry cranes, 50 prime movers and eight yard cranes will cost Rs. 3,450 million. This yard, comprising 39,800 square meters, will have the capacity to handle 230,000 containers annually, and several other cargo shipments. Penta Ocean Wakachiku Joint Venture Company will handle the construction of the yard, with Japan Port Consultant Company being the consultants. With the construction of this yard, the number yards in the Colombo Port will be increased to 26. |
