Six vehicles were demaged in a clash between two factions of the UNP and PA supporters yesterday (12) close to the residence of former UNP, MP Renuka Herath at Wawulkele, Walapane. Police had to shoot in the air to disperse the crowd, Welapane police said.

Investigations had revealed that the two factions under the influence of liquor had met face to face and had thrown stones and brick bats against each other. Of the vehicles damaged, four were those parked in the premises of the residence of Renuka Herath.

Security in the area has been tightened. Action is being taken to arrest the suspects, police sources said.
