The Bribery Commission

The untimely removal of the Commissioner General of the Bribery Commission from office, even though he was there in an acting capacity, at this juncture, is indeed warrants serious attention.

This resignation brings to mind a similar situation where the one time Auditor General P. M. Wijesuriya, resigned from the commission within hardly a few months of his appointment.

It did ring a bell but did anyone ask why he had taken that decision? As a matter of fact, a special commission should have been appointed to go into that matter, knowing, as many knew, the integrity and calibre of Mr. Wijesuriya.

Whatever happens in the present crisis, it should never be too late to go into Mr. Wijesuriya’s case. All doubts in public mind must be cleared if faith in commissions is to be restored.
