| Pre-election Tiger Dance Once again the PA has started its usual Pre-election Tiger Dance. At every election after 1994 the main allegation of the PA against the UNP has been that the UNP has a secret pact with the LTTE to divide the country and create an Eelam for them. However, after the elections these allegations are completely forgotten to be levelled against the UNP at the next election. LTTE is a proscribed terrorist organization. If the UNP has any secret pacts with it to divide the country it is a very serious offence. It should have been investigated and if found guilty UNP leaders should have been punished. But it hasnt happened. Who really had a secret pact with the LTTE? If we recollect what happened in the Sri Sri Lankan politics during the last decade it would be clear it is the PA which appears to have had secret pacts with the LTTE. In fact if not for the LTTE there would not have been a PA government today with Ms. Kumartunga as the head of state. LTTE systematically eliminated all the popular leading politicians in the UNP, other political parties and even those in the security forces who would have been an alternative to the present leadership of the PA. Thus we see the elimination of Ranjan Wijeratne, Denzil Kobbekaduwa, Wijaya Wimalaratne, Lalith Athulathmudali and Ranasinghe Premadasa as LTTEs contribution towards the PA. It was during the 1994 presidential election campaign that the UNP Presidential Candidate and many others were wiped out by the LTTE and the presidential election became a cakewalk for the PA? In the Northern and Eastern Provinces the PA polled over 90 per cent of the total number of votes cast thanks to the LTTE. One of the first acts of Chandrika after becoming President was to appoint the notorious LTTE ally Wasantha Raja Chairman of the Rupavahini Corporation. She went many steps ahead and offered the northern province to the LTTE for ten years even without consulting the parliament or her cabinet. Fortunately for Sri Lanka this offer was rejected by the LTTE for whatever reasons. Cement, batteries and many other items that had been banned because they were used by the LTTE in its terrorist war against the Security Forces were sent by the lorry load. Under Chandrikas leadership PA became the biggest arms supplier to the LTTE - several massive military installations fell to the hands of the LTTE due to PAs military blunders. In spite of a warning from military intelligence of an imminent LTTE attack, the Commander of the Mullativu army camp was allowed to go on leave without a replacement and his deputy recalled to Colombo to give evidence before some Commission. The rudderless camp was overrun by the LTTE in a few hours. Hundreds of troops were killed the LTTE just walked away with arms, ammunition and equipment including MBTs and field guns worth over rupees three billion. To add insult to injury they carried these things in army vehicles. This process was repeated every few months whenever the LTTE needed new arms supplies. It stopped only when they ran out of camps to raid. LTTE was very happy that it was getting arms free. PA leaders involved in the war effort were extremely happy because the, fall of a camp is a bonanza for them as well as their henchmen involved in arms deals. Chandrika and other PA leaders have publicly declared on many occasions that their enemy is the UNP and not the LTTE. In this instance what they say seems to be true. All the state resources are used not to fight the LTTE but to undermine the UNP. As a result the Tigers are able operate in any part of the country without much hindrance. Whenever any crime is committed by the LTTE the PA has done its best to put the blame on the UNP. Surely there must be some limit to their hypocrisy! Anti-humbug |
