| An open letter to the JVP I would like to pose the following questions to the JVP for answers: If you ever succeeded in forming the next government, who would be your Prime Minister, Minister of Defence, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Minister of Trade, Minister of Education, Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, Minister of Buddhist Affairs, etc.? If the LTTE agree to give up Eelam and lay down arms, how do you propose to end the ethnic conflict? Give precise details. Will your party within three months of coming into power appoint all commissions including the judicial commission? Will your party re-nationalise privatised ventures? Will your party within three months abolish Executive Presidency? Will your party close down all liquor stores, bars, casinos and bookies? In doing so how do you propose to guarantee employment, thousands employed in these businesses? Will your party increase salaries and implement the workers charter which has been abandoned by the PA? Will your party guarantee media freedom and broad-base the state media institutions? Will your party provide adequate compensation to everyone afflicted in 1972 and 1989 insurrections without political bias? How do you intend to tackle unemployment and other economic problems? Will your party
like China invite America to invest in Sri Lanka? Will your party be non-aligned in
international affairs and abide by World Bank dictates, if so how? |
