In a fast changing world, where modern technology plays an important role, it is essential to have an education to face the challenges, said Prof. Lakshman R. Watawala, deputy chairman, Singapore Informatics Computer Institute (Pvt) Ltd., on Friday. "A good knowledge in the field of information technology (IT) is necessary for today’s world which has a heavy use of this technology", he said.

Watawala made these observations at a press briefing to announce the launch of Salem International University (SIU) USA degree programmes by their institute. He said that the two degree programmes are Associate of Science and Bachelor of Science in IT.

These programmes are conducted in collaboration of the parent company Informatics Holdings Ltd., Singapore and SIU, USA."These will gear students to develop their programming and technical skills required for the IT industry", Watawala said. It is ideal for today’s professionals and mature students who want to pursue a ‘top’ bachelors degree on a flexible, ‘anytime, anywhere basis’, he said. (SJ)
