| GL claims R.s 4.000 m from Lake House United National Front spokesman G. L. Peiris has filed action before the Colombo District Court claiming Rs. 4,000 million from Lake House, alleging that certain articles had defamed him. Peiris quoted two articles published by two newspapers of the Associated Newspapers of Ceylon Limited and cited as respondents Lake House Chairman Lucien Rajakarunanayake, Daily News Editor Jayatilleke de Silva and former Dinamina Editor Sujeewa Dissanayake. Filing action through his lawyers Paul Ratnayake Associates, Peiris said he was a professor of law and doctor of philosophy from Oxford University. He said he had held posts as head of Colombo Universitys law faculty and was vice chancellor of the same. He was also a parliamentarian from 1994 to October 2001. The articles claimed that he was dishonest. The articles concerned were The Professors racket and How the Professor sold quotas. There was another one in Dinamina, all of which had damaged his reputation, he said. |
