Nuwara Eliya police on Friday night arrested 10 persons and recovered a pistol along with 151 rounds of ammunition, a senior police spokesman said. They were produced before Nuwara Eliya Acting Magistrate A.R.Raheem yesterday and remanded till December 3.

The suspects have claimed that they were hired by former MP and Nuwara Eliya District UNP candidate Navin Dissanayake to provide him security during the elections campaign and each were daily paid Rs 1000.

The suspects were arrested near Nuwara Eliya when they were coming towards the town in a Hi-ace van from the direction of Badulla.
