57% increase in HEL’s profits

Hayleys Exports Ltd (HEL) increased their after tax profits by 56.9% to Rs 30.7 million for the six month period ended September 30, when compared with their performance the corresponding period last year, data on the company’s profit and loss account (P&L) showed.

The company’s turnover for the period under review increased by 26% to Rs 157 million. Other seemingly notable data on the company’s P&L were a 16.4% increase in the company’s cost of sales to Rs 120.1 million.

A 33.9% increase in administrative expenses to Rs 16.6 million and a 29.6% increase in income from associates to Rs 19.5 million. Meanwhile, the market value of an HEL ordinary share as at September 30 was Rs 31.75. It was Rs 32 on September 30 of last year.

The highest and lowest values recorded during this six month period was Rs 42.75 on July 2 and Rs 31.50 on September 18. The corresponding figures during the comparative period last year were Rs 34 on July 5, 2000 and Rs 24 on May 5, 2000.
