3000 soldiers on standby duty
IGP assures police with army help will enforce law and order

A strength of 3000 soldiers will be on stand-by duty to be deployed to curb election violences today. ‘If the necessity arises more troops would be deployed,’ a senior official of the army said.

He further said that troop movements in the north and east during the election period have also been strengthened.

Meanwhile, during the amnesty period granted to army deserters 42 have surrendered, army sources said.

Inspector General of Police, Lucky Kodituwakku, meanwhile said, that the police with the assistance of the army would enforce the law strictly to curb election malpractices and election violences.
