PSD director talks tough

Director, Presidential Security Division (PSD) Superintendent of Police, Nihal Karunaratne yesterday claimed that he had the right to deploy PSD men to any part of the country and those men had the right to carry weapons.

Karunaratne re-iterated that PSD men were present in certain areas for security reasons.

He claimed that PSD men had to be present in areas where the President was expected to be present.

Referring to the arrest of several PSD men in the outstations, Karunaratne said, "We have given reasons for their presence to courts".

UNP Media Spokesman Karunasena Kodituwakku said that though PSD men had the right to visit places where the President went but pointed out that the President had concluded her election campaign.

He added that there was no necessity for PSD men to roam in areas where the President was not present.
