How to control the government?

This is in reply to Mr K Godage’s article titled ‘Towards a new era: an end to Confrontational Politics in Sri Lanka’ in the Internet Edition of the Island of Dec. 5, 2001. While being an excellent article (though he has merely repeated that which many others have stated ad nauseam before), I have just one question for him, and that is, how are we going to correct all the errors of commission and ommission that he has described so eloquently?

One particular point he has mentioned, that "government must not be left to politicians" is particularly relevant and revealing. But how does he propose to have the public telling the government how to govern?
