| Arjuna polls big! Former Sri Lanka cricket captain, Arjuna Ranatunga, contesting the Colombo District on the Peoples Alliance ticket, polled the second highest preferential votes, for his party, at Wednesdays General Elections. Ranatunga, whose father, Reggie, also contested under the Peoples Alliance banner, at the election, took to politics only a few months ago. His achievements in the field of cricket elevated him to demi god status, in the eyes of many, having led his country to victory at the 1996 World Cup. Ranatunga commenced his cricket career at Ananda College Maradana, from where he went on to represent the countrys national team, while still a schoolboy. (Ravi) |
