| Alavi Moulana dropped from PA National List, refuses post of
WP Governor By Prasad Gunawardena Moulana was summoned for a meeting on Monday by PA General Secretary D. M. Jayaratne and Presidential Secretary K. Balapatabendhi to be told that he could be the Governor of the western Province as the party could not accommodate him in the national list. Mr. Alavi Moulana has declined the offer stating he would prefer to continue in PA trade union activity as the post of a Governor did not suit a person who had committed himself for trade union activity for nearly five decades. Moulana will now revert to his former office at the SLFP headquarters which he occupied for over forty years before entering Parliament in 1994 on the PA National list. Former Foreign Minister Lakshman Kadirgamar leads the PA National List and among those selected are D. M. Jayaratne, Ronnie de Mel, Ajantha de Zoysa, Segu Issadeen, Dilan Perera and S. Sathasivam. |
